The Fender American Original 60s Telecaster Thinline in 3 Color Sunburst is heavily steeped in authentic, vintage vibe with just the right dose of modern playability to make this far more player-friendly than any authentic 60s Tele Thinline! Tim Shaw designed the period-specific pickups for the American Original Thinline and they are fantastic.

First off, the term Thinline refers to the body of the guitar being chambered or mostly hollowed out. No longer a solid-body, these instruments have expanded acoustic principles and tend to carry a little more acoustic volume/resonance than their solid-bodied counterpart. This American Original Thinline has a single F-Hole on the bass side while the treble side of the guitar is still heavily routed for controls, hence the cool pickguard covering a bit more real estate than on a typical Tele.

The body is constructed from Ash, a much-loved tonewood that has recently run into supply problems. Fender will be limiting the use of this wood for a while in order to reduce its impact on its supply. The body is finished in 3 Color Sunburst with Nitrocellulose Lacquer, the same stuff they finished guitars with back the 50s and 60s.

Tim Shaw, the pickup Guru at The Fender Custom Shop, designed the pickups for this guitar to capture the sound of the original instruments while making them play nicely with modern amps. All the snap and pop is present (accentuated by the maple neck and steel saddles) but they have a cushy, cloud-like low end that acts as a harmonic pillow for the top-end to lay on. Ooh, that's good... Gotta remember that line :) A master volume, master tone, and three-way blade switch make it easier to find the sound you are looking for.

The neck is made from a single piece of Maple and is carved to a Medium C profile. The fretboard radius is 9.5" which, while not considered vintage, there is PLENTY of evidence (cough cough, the Blackguard Book) for many vintage instruments carrying a 9.5". Either way, it offers superior playability for the majority of players that we have spoken with so this is a great spec-swap. Twenty-One Vintage Tall Frets are installed and this is another welcomed change from 'vintage'. This taller fret offers an easier surface for those who like to bend or don't like to feel too much fingerboard under their fretting fingers.

Fender keeps building guitars for players. With their eye on offering tons of features for not a whole lot of money, you can easily find the right Fender for whatever your needs may be. Stop by the shop today and see what's new from Fender, all the way from Squier to Fender Custom Shop!
