This Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1960 Les Paul Standard Reissue Ultra Light Aged in Tomato Burst weighs in at 8 lbs 11 oz. The 1960 Les Paul features the much-loved Slim Taper Neck Profile that has made guitars like the Les Paul Classic and 61 SG staples of the Gibson Product Line. With top-shelf appointments like Hot Hide Glue Construction, a Long Neck Tenon for added sustain and stability, and the aging done by the Artisans at Murphy Labs, this 1960 Les Paul Ultra Light Aged is truly a thing of beauty!
This 60 Les Paul Standard was treated to Murphy Lab's Ultra Light Aging process which involves lightly aging both the finish and the hardware of the guitar. This takes the VOS concept to the next level and since Tom Murphy is well known for his aged Gibson guitars from the early 2000s, he was the obvious choice! Finished in Bourbon Burst, weather checked to perfection with tarnished and aged hardware, this guitar looks like a much-loved guitar that got played hard a few times and put away dirty!
The main ingredients for the 1960 Les Paul Standard include a 1 piece, lightweight Mahogany Body with no weight relief. The beautiful top on this electric guitar is made from a Bookmatched Piece of Figured Maple. The Wide Tomato Burst Finish is 100% Nitrocellulose and it compliments the beautiful maple top perfectly! The tonewood combo of maple and mahogany has been around since 1952 and it's stood the test of time. Its fat, thick tones have some sweet top-end compression thanks to the maple top.
The neck is made from Mahogany and is carved into the 1960 SlimTaper Profile. This is easily the fastest playing neck in the Gibson product line and the one we see more rock, progressive, and metal players gravitating towards. The Indian Rosewood Fingerboard carries a 12" fingerboard radius and is fit to the neck with Hide Glue. 22 Historically Accurate Medium Jumbo Frets give us a fantastic playing surface friendly to big bends and vibrato. Other neck specs include 1.69" Nut Width, 24.75" Scale Length, a Nylon Nut, and a Long Neck Tenon.
The Custombucker Humbuckers feature Alnico 3 magnets and are Unpotted. Unpotted Pickups capture an insane amount of fidelity due to their more microphonic tendencies. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls and a 3-way pickup toggle grants access to them individually or in tandem. The pickup covers are tarnished and aged to complete their look perfectly. The babies sing with sustain! The bridge has the perfect edge to it that helps it cut through the mix with ease. The neck pickup is fat, round, and juicy but not flubby or bass dominant. In the middle position, we find the perfect balance of both pickups.
