This Used 1965 Fender Precision Bass in Olympic White is here on consignment. Included with this incredible Vintage Bass are some other tasty Fender Collectibles like the original strap, Fender Guitar Polish, owner's manual, cable, and hardshell case. This isn't just a killer bass, it's an amazingly complete Vintage Package! Overall, this bass is in great shape for its age with the typical finish aging, weather checking, and a nice-looking patina taking the brightness off the Olympic White finish. There are some dings and dents on the back and on the edge that sits on your leg, fairly typical stuff for an instrument that's been on-stage more than a handful of times. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod functions properly. For a 59 year old bass, this beauty is in phenomenal condition and the entire package is something special!
The neck on this bass has the feel of a broken-in pair of jeans. It's been played but with love and its current condition reflects that. The finish on the back of the neck is still intact with no wear spots. The profile feels like a C but with just a touch of extra shoulder. It measures .789" deep at the 1st fret and .964" deep at the 12th fret. It's got a very dark rosewood board that is most likely Brazilian and the neck features Clay Dots. Both are indicators that it's an early 1965 model. It is currently strung up with Flatwound strings and it does that Motowny-Thunk-Thunk thing PERFECTLY!
The electronics are all original. The single split-coil pickup has aged beautifully and has a tone you don't just find on a new instrument. The magnets have been degaussed over the decades so this bass naturally sits in the mix exactly where it should. All the hardware is 100% original and fully functioning. It has aged over the decades though since it has been well cared for it's just tarnishing and light oxidation.
The handle of the hardshell case is not in great shape. I'd suggest getting a new case for this bass and storing the vintage one in a temperature and humidity-controlled environment so no more wear and tear accrues. Honestly, the case is the roughest part of this package!
This is an exceptional collectible and it's only made more intriguing by the original polish, strap, owner's manual, and cable. This bass would be a perfect addition to any collection and could easily be the crowning jewel of any collection!
