Now here is something you don't see every day... a PRS Hollowbody 12 String 10 Top! This stunning guitar is finished in Aquamarine over its carved Maple 10 Top and it is as eye-catching as they come. Oh, and it's easily the most playable 12 string guitar I have played, aside from the last PRS 12 String we saw which was about 15 years ago.
A PRS 10 Tops mean the figuring on the Carved Maple Top is well above average. There are traces of green, yellow, and pink in the figured maple top so this shade of blue has little pops of color all over the place! The figuring changes when you view the guitar from different angles and the carving on the top and back are elegantly executed.
Even the back of this guitar has some worth mentioning. Not only is it carved Mahogany, not laminate, but it is from 1 piece! A 1 Piece back on a guitar like this is not something we can order until we reach the Private Stock level!
The pickups are a set of 58/15LT Humbuckers which are the perfect choice to capture the jingle jangle of all 12 strings. They are tied to a 3-way toggle, a master volume, and master tone, along with a 3-way toggle.
This Paul Reed Smith 12 String is a true Hollow Body, no center block, so it resonates incredibly well and produces an impressive amount of acoustic volume. It is very lightweight and easy to manage on a strap. Weighing in at only 5 lbs 8 oz despite all the extra hardware. Speaking of the hardware, peep the saddles... Yep, split saddles allow for superior intonation!
The neck is made from Mahogany and then topped with a Rosewood Fingerboard. The fingerboard is inlaid with Birds for the classic PRS look. The neck is shockingly easy to play. I have played quite a few 12 strings over the years with a PRS from the early 2000s sticking out as the best I had ever played. This is one is easily as nice, as playable, and as impressive as the only other one I have ever played!
