The New Modern Deluxe Series from Martin Guitar combines some tried and true features with modern specs resulting one of the most playable Martin's ever made.
This is a 000-28 Modern Deluxe with East Indian rosewood back and sides along with a VTS Sitka Spruce Top. This wood pairing has lasted for centuries and inspired thousands along the way.
If you prefer a thin neck on an Acoustic, you will probably like the way this one feels. It doesn't have that classic Martin chunk to it, in fact it feels a bit more Taylor-esque. Thanks to a bit of asymmetry, I found I could do a few things that I had trouble on with larger necks. 24.9" scale combines with 1.75" nut width for an slightly slinky feel compared to a typical Martin Dreadnaught.
The top is made from Sitka Spruce and then given Martin's VTS treatment. Basically this is a way of cooking or heating the wood so that it's moisture content is lower (more stable) and on a cellular level, the wood looks more like a naturally aged piece of lumber. Pretty cool! So cool in fact that most manufacturers are offering some sort of cooking, roasting, chocolating, VTS'ing, whatever you wanna call it!
