Another favorite has emerged at The Music Gallery! These Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 63 Stratocaster Heavy Relic by Greg Fessler keep proving to be as good as they get! Alder, plus maple, plus rosewood equals pure 60's goodness and this model has some seriously cool features to amp things up several notches. Handwound pickups, a brass tremolo block, an exceptionally comfortable neck, and a wonderfully tactile relic job are just a few of the most notable features.
The main ingredients:
A 2 Piece Alder Body Sorted for Light Weight.
A quarter-sawn maple neck and AAA Rosewood Fingerboard.
Alder is a punchy, assertive sounding wood, that pairs perfectly with the Maple/Rosewood Neck. If a little beefier than brighter is your thing, then Alder over Ash is the way to go. Alder is considered punchy, well balanced if not flat across frequencies, making it very malleable in terms of tone.
Large C Neck Profile
.875 at 1st fret and .950" at the 12th
12" fingerboard Radius
Jumbo 6100 Frets
This is a great neck for the player looking for a bigger than average Strat neck. With a depth of .875" at the 1st fret, this neck will even make the fat neck'ed Tele guy happy! Tapering up to .950" this is a full feeling neck in all positions. A 12" fingerboard radius teamed with 6100 Jumbo frets provides a stellar playing surface that is big-bend-friendly!
The quartersawn maple neck increases stability and typically requires adjustment less often, depending on the environment. So add the thickness to the fact that quartesawn wood is exceptionally rigid and you have one stable neck! The AAA Rated Rosewood fingerboard is hand-selected and chosen for its darkness. The Fender Custom Shop still has a nice stash of Rosewood so their fingerboards continue to look great!
Handwound John Cruz LTD Spec Set. Certainly the last time we will get these in a new guitar!
5 Way, Volume, Tone x 2
This guitar got the Handwound JC LTD Pickups. We had several John Cruz pieces on order at the time of his dismissal and it seems like they must have already had these pickups and didn't want them to go to waste. While we aren't 100% sure of the story, we are sure they sound incredible.
Another fantastic spec is a brass block for the tremolo instead of the typical steel. Brass adds sweet harmonics to a Strat, increases sustain and even makes a bridge pickups play nice(r). The 6 Point Tremolo Plate and Bent Steel Saddles provide a familiar playing surface for the right hand.
