This Fender Custom Shop 60 Telecaster Relic in Two Tone Sunburst weighs 5 lbs 12 oz. It is the lightest solid body Fender Custom Shop Tele we have ever had and it is THAT guitar that we are all clamoring about. It features a double-bound Swamp Ash body, quartersawn maple neck, and AAA dark and rich-looking Rosewood Fingerboard. Seriously, how does it weigh under 6 lbs!? Read on but read fast, because if you have kept an eye on our website lately, things like this have been coming and going faster than ever!
Two Tone Sunburst is a classic Fender Finish, and it looks as good on this Tele Custom as it possibly can! The color pops a little extra thanks to the Double-Bound body which adds visual lines that my eye likes. The sides of the guitar are finished in Plum, which gives this guitar a unique 2-Tone visual vibe. We have seen a few Customs with these Plum Sides and they never hang around for long! This guitar has been aged at the factory so it is loaded with Vibe and Mojo. Make sure to look closely at the body as the grain on this one, though minimal compared to some others, is still very cool, especially on the back.
The Body of this Tele Custom is made from Swamp Ash. Most Customs are Alder so this is certainly an upgrade. The glorious tonewood that is Swamp Ash helps this guitar weigh in at 5 lbs 12 oz, not a featherweight this baby is a Fly Weigh! This is a comfortable weight for any guitar so long nights with it slung around your neck should be easy-peasy. Best of all, it ain't light on tone AT ALL! Even acoustically, this guitar rings with strong volume and musical brilliance.
The neck is made from 5/4 Quarter Sawn Maple. Maple is already a stable and sturdy wood but when you quartersaw it, we see an uptick in rigidity and stability. Sure, it takes a little more raw material but the end result is worth it! The 60 Style Oval C Profile is topped with a AAA Rosewood Fingerboard that carries a 9.5" radius. There are 21 x 6105 Frets installed for a nice tall feel. 1.650" nut width, 25.5" scale length, a 1st fret depth of .820" and .940" at the 12th fret complete the important details.
A set of Handwound Twisted Tele Pickups were chosen for this model and they are sublime! The neck pickup sounds more open, airier, more like a Strat, and less like a covered/muted single coil. The bridge pickup is steeped in Vintage Sauce but carries a little more output to grease the signal path a little. A master volume, master tone, 3-way switch, and Wax Paper Cap cover the important electronic details.
