The Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition Roasted Poblano Stratocaster Relic in Black is the Alder and Rosewood brother of the much-loved Ancho Poblano Strat. With more of a late 50s and early 60s vibe, this beast brings the heat with one of our most favorite pickups from the Fender Custom Shop. Both the Alder Body and Maple neck have been roasted, cooked, heat-treated, whatever you want to call it! The result is a more stable piece of wood, less prone to seasonal shifts, and generally in need of less adjustment. Hey, all the manufacturers are doing it so it must be cool!
The neck itself is made from a piece of Roasted, Rift Sawn Maple for the utmost in stability. If you are tired of adjusting the neck on your guitar, roast some rift sawn maple to cut down on the adjustments needed! A Large 1959 C Shaped Neck is exceptionally comfortable. Not the skinny twig you'll find on some super slim 59 C shapes, this one is legitimately large! With a depth of .860 at the 1st fret and .990 at the 12th fret, there is some nice meat on the bone here! The fingerboard is made of some luscious looking dark rosewood which has a 9.5" radius and 21 Jumbo Frets installed. Roasted woods, a big fat neck, jumbo frets, and a player-friendly radius for the win!
This guitar is partially named after the pickups that are installed in it so they better be good! In fact, they are great! I hear them as being a more Vintage-Vibed Texas Special. There is some heat to them right off the bat but they clean up and warm up better than a Texas Special, at least to my ears. I find the top end a little more sweet, rather than cutting, so for those who still like some oomph but perhaps with a smoother top end, the Ancho is worth a listen. These Hand Wound Pickups are tied to a master volume, 2 tone controls, and a 5-way switch. For ALL the details on these amazing pickups check out this edition of Matt's Blog.
