This Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt Surf Strat by Dennis Galuszka is like nothing else in the shop! It's been a few years since we have seen another one of these amazing electric guitars and this one is something to behold. Weighing only 6 lbs 9 oz, the body is made from Redwood and Spruce, an unusual combo for Fender but one that is so toneful, you'll be rethinking tonewood. This is easily the lightest Strat in the shop!
We 1st saw the Surf Strat in the early 2000s and it immediately became one of THOSE guitars, that every time we saw one from that moment forward, we knew exactly what it was and who built it. We have seen around 10 of these over the years, it's not an easy build so we don't see them all that often. This time around, rather than using Alder, Masterbuilder Dennis Galuszka choose to use California Redwood for the body. Quite possibly the perfect tonewood choice to up the ante on this Surf-Board Inspired guitar. Check out the pics of the back of the guitar and note the grain pattern in the tummy cut. It's killer!
The neck is made from maple and shape to a 60s oval C profile. It is topped with AAA Rosewood which is absolutely gorgeous. The fingerboard radius is 7.25" and the guitar has twenty-one Vintage Upgrade Sized frets. Say Aloha to the 12th fret Surfer Inlay Guy while you're at it! 25.5" Scale Length and 1.650" nut width combine for a classic feeling Fender.
The pickups are a set of 60 Spec single coils. A master volume, along with 2 tone controls, and a 5-way switch round out all the electronic controls. This is a bright and airy sounding guitar thanks to the pickups but also the tonewoods that were chosen. Redwood and Spruce certainly help this guitar resonate with an open-sounding top-end and plenty of quack in positions 2 and 4.
We ordered this incredible guitar in 2018 and it finally arrived! A three-year wait period for something like this isn't unheard of, especially these days. Masterbuilt Guitars are slowly trickling in these days and heading out just as fast. Make sure to hit us up ASAP before this one is gone and we are waiting for another 3 years for one to arrive!
