Gibson Custom Murphy Lab 1958 Les Paul Standard Reissue in Bourbon Burst with Ultra Light Aging is brand new and comes with its original hardshell case, certificate of authenticity, and hardshell case. The Murphy Labs Aged Guitars have been arriving steadily and they have all been super impressive! This is our first 58 and it is truly a phenomenal guitar! No expenses were spared in the building of this Custom Shop Les Paul. From top-notch tonewoods, to Hide Glue adhesive, to Unpotted Custombucker pickups, this 58 Reissue has got some serious mojo!
The venerable 58 Les Paul Standard marks the 1st year of the Sunburst Finish as Gibson moved away from the Gold Top. It's just like the original were with its Chunky C-shaped neck and plain maple top.
This 58 Les Paul Standard was treated to Murphy Lab's Ultra Light Aging process which involves lightly aging both the finish and the hardware of the guitar. This takes the VOS concept to the next level and since Tom Murphy is well known for his aged Gibson guitars from the early 2000s, he was the obvious choice! Finished in Bourbon Burst, weather checked to perfection with tarnished and aged hardware, this guitar looks like a much-loved guitar that got played hard a few times and put away dirty!
The Custombucker Humbuckers feature Alnico 3 magnets and are Unpotted. Unpotted Pickups capture an insane amount of fidelity due to their more microphonic tendencies. Each pickup has its own volume and tone controls and a 3-way pickup toggle grants access to them individually or in tandem. The pickup covers are tarnished and aged to complete their look perfectly. The babies sing with sustain! The bridge has the perfect edge to it that helps it cut through the mix with ease. The neck pickup is fat, round, and juicy but not flubby or bass dominant. In the middle position, we find the perfect balance of both pickups.
