The Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Custom Reissue in Ebony, AKA The Black Beauty is truly a special guitar amongst the other Les Paul reissues. Carved from a single piece of mahogany, this guitar does not feature a maple top. This results in a warmer, denser sound with a less biting top end. The perfect Les Paul for Jazz and Blues, that Black Beauty has been a thing of beauty since its introduction in 1957.
The neck is made from solid mahogany and then topped with a solid ebony fingerboard. This combo has served thousands upon thousands of players over the decades with sustain, warmth, resonance, and a bright, articulate attack. The neck is carved to a Chunky C Profile. The fingerboard radius comes in at 12" and when paired with Gibsons Historic Medium Jumbo Fretwire, you get one phenomenal playing surface. Tasty fingerboard binding and the classic Headstock binding and inlay complete the look.
The pickups are a pair of Unpotted Custombuckers with Alnico III magnets. These are a great-sounding pickup when you want warmth and richness. They are the perfect pairing with the all-mahogany body. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control. A Switchcraft Brand 3 Way Toggle grants you access to each pickup or both in tandem.
