The Gibson Flying V in Antique Natural has come a long way since it was introduced in 1958. While it is practically undebatable that guys like Schenker, Mustaine, Hetfield, Hammett, Downing, and Wylde are the guys responsible for keeping the design relevant since the 1980s, one can't ignore the bevy of player's like Leslie West, Albert King, even Tom Petty and Lenny Kravitz who were playing a Flying V during memorable points in their careers. Point being, this isn't just a guitar for the metal-head that lives in many of us, it's well suited for ANYONE looking to make as strong an impression visually as they do sonically.

This sonic expression is achieved via a pair of calibrated BurstBucker 2 and 3 Humbuckers. This calibrated set is better matched in terms of output from pickup to pickup. With the bridge humbucker being the BurstBucker 3, this guitar can run hot! However, it tapers down beautifully, and sweetens up, and warms up better than other hot humbuckers from Gibson like the 500, 498, or 496 or 490. The Burstbucker 2 in the neck position is Fat for days! Singing leads are no problem, neither is incredible sustain. Each pickup has its own Volume Controls and then there is a single, master tone control. A 3-way toggle grants access to all the sounds.

The body is made from Mahogany, a tonewood from the heavens. This wood provides darker sounds than maple, ash, or alder and is the sole tonewood used for the bodies on most SG's, Juniors, and Specials. It's focused, articulate, and the clear choice for anyone looking for a thick sounding guitar loaded with sustain.

The neck is made from Mahogany as well and then topped with a Rosewood Fingerboard with a 12" radius. The neck is carved to a SlimTaper Profile, a shape much loved by those who prefer a thin neck on a Gibson. This neck has appeared on numerous guitars thru-out the decades with the 61 SG and Les Paul Classic being the 1st that comes to mind. 22 Medium Jumbo Frets are installed and are Pleked from the factory so this guitar plays like a dream out of the box. 1.69" Nut width, 24,75" scale length, and a Graph Tech Nut round out the important details.

Gibson is back in 2020 with new leadership and the quality if already heading in the right direction! The first handful of guitars we have seen have had many of the issues addressed. Better cut nuts, even smoother frets, improved finish work, the improvements are quite obvious! We are stocking USA, Custom Shop, and Montana Made Acoustic Guitars again so make sure to stop by the shop when you get the chance to see how the NEW Gibson's stack up!
