This Gibson SG Standard 61 in Vintage Cherry weighs 6 lbs 7 oz. The 61 SG captures the venerable model from its inaugural year. In 1961, the SG body shape replaced the Les Paul shape. Considered by many to be the most beautiful SG thanks to its more elegant horn-beveling, bat-wing pickguard, and more Cherry finish.

One of the most loved aspects of the 1961 SG is its SlimTaper Neck Profile. This is the thinnest neck you'll find on modern-era Gibson Guitars. Most players on the harder side of rock seem to gravitate towards this neck as it allows for fast and furious riffage. Made from Mahogany and topped with a Rosewood fingerboard, classic Gibson ingredients. The fingerboard is bound and carries a 12" fingerboard radius. Other appointments included 43.05mm nut width, Graph Tech Nut Material, and 24.75" Scale Length.

The body is made from Mahogany and finished in Vintage Cherry. When seen next to an SG Standard, this color is brighter and pops more. The wonderful grain of the body peers through the translucent stain finish. The 61 SG features deeper body contours and bevels for a sleeker, more angular look. The Batwing Pickguard looks great and allows for more of the grain to be visible.

The pickups are a set of 60s Burstbucker Humbuckers. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control. A 3-way pickup selector switch grants access to each pickup on its own or in tandem.

From the Gibson Website...
The SG Standard ‘61 returns to the classic design that made it relevant, played, and loved -- shaping sound across generations and genres of music. In 1961, the Les Paul™ model was put on hiatus and an all-new design evolved into what is today known as the SG™ or “solid guitar.” The Gibson SG Standard '61 retains the original's styling, featuring a SlimTaper™ mahogany neck and a bound rosewood fingerboard. The mahogany body features deeply sculpted body scarfing, a 5-ply teardrop pickguard, and a 22nd-fret neck joint. The nickel-plated hardware includes a classic-style Tune-O-Matic™ bridge and Keystone tuners. The pickups are 60s Burstbucker™ humbuckers™ for a classic voice with added power and top end.  Controls feature audio taper potentiometers and Orange Drop® capacitors.
