The Martin 000-15M Mahogany Acoustic Guitar is a real underdog. I have some friends (I know, hard to believe, right?) that have 000-15 from the late 1990s that sound phenomenal! They have not only broken in beautifully regarding tone, but they have polished up and darkened in hue, giving them a uniquely glossy appearance directly related to how it's player holds and plays it. Pretty cool, indeed! With the tonewood getting scarce, this is a great way to get an all-mahogany Martin in your collection at a very reasonable price.
Mahogany is a lovely tonewood that has a darker, tamped-down tone compared to Spruce. It tends to be denser and a bit heavier than spruce, so most guitars topped with Mahogany demonstrate less brightness and a bit less projection. I find Mahogany acoustic to be sweet, warm, focused, and a bit dry. Great when you want an articulate-sounding guitar to sing over that is not exceptionally loud. Don't get me wrong, it's still a Martin so it can still move some air but due to its 000 Body Size and Mahogany-ness, this is an acoustic that will even keep the landlord happy.
