This Martin Custom Shop 000-42K Koa Acoustic Guitar is one-of-a-kind! With hand-selected Hawaiian Koa Top, Back, and Sides, this is one striking instrument! Draped with Select Abalone, this guitar looks as good as it sounds!
The entire body is made from Premium Grade, Exceptionally Figured Koa which is sourced from Hawaii. This tonewood is in short supply so to even see stuff this nice on some new guitars is a relief! Koa offers a tone similar to mahogany but with some added top-end brilliance. Mahogany tends to have a slightly dampened and dark sound. Koa takes that mahogany platform and cranks up the treble, opening up its sound. The top, back, and sides, are all made from Premium Grade, Exceptionally Figured Koa and every inch of it is captivating! This wood is in short supply so anything made with it is priced accordingly! The body and fingerboard are bound in European Flamed Maple.
The neck is made from genuine mahogany, carved to the Modified Low Oval Profile, and features the Standard Taper. The fingerboard is made from Ebony, carries a 16" fingerboard radius, and Style 45 Fingerboard Inlays made out of Abalone. 1 and 11/16" nut width puts the strings right under your fingers, and 24.9" scale length keeps the strings feeling a little slinkier than Martins typical 25.4". The headplate is made of Premium Grade, Exceptionally Figured Koa with the CFM Block inlay in Abalone.
The bridge is made from Ebony and carved to the modern belly design. The saddle is made from bone and it is compensated for added intonation. The string spacing at the bridge measures 2 and 1/8"". The bridge pins are white and have a paua shell dot inlaid on them.
If you are looking to add Koa to your collection, now is the time! This incredible wood is getting harder to come by and more expensive. Give us a call about this Martin Custom Shop OM-42K!
