This PRS Special 22 Semi Hollow in Deep Grape Metallic is a limited edition offering from PRS and it is supremely slick! A very difficult to photograph metallic flake, deep purple finish is not the norm for PRS so we were excited to see something a little out of the ordinary.
The Special 22 features an elaborate Pickup system that allows for an over-the-top amount of tones. It has 3 humbuckers installed in it starting with a pair of 58/15MT in the neck and bridge positions along with a Narrowfield pickup in the middle. 2 mini switches provide coil-tapping on the neck and bridge pickups allowing for incredible Strat-like tones that are expressive as they are inspiring. The 58/15MT Pickups are a great sounding humbucker with a clear top-end and low enough output that they don't immediately brownout and compress an amp. The Narrowfield in the middle has a focused, articulate, snappy sound to it, so it adds in the Strat element perfectly!
Semi-Hollow Body Guitars carry strong acoustic guitar-like principles. The lows are lower, the highs are higher and the acoustic resonance is way more inspiring than on your average solid-body! Plugged in, this guitar has a nice cushy, pillowy low-end thanks to its semi-hollow design. This is truly a very large sounding guitar with a ton of tones at your fingertips.
The classic wood-combo of mahogany, maple, and rosewood is present in this build and as usual, the woods selected are top notch. PRS has long been known for its impeccable woods and candy-like finishes that have made them the object of desire for just about everyone who has seen one in person or played one. This beautiful Special 22 not only has the right woods but it's finished in a unique, page metallic shade that you just can't find on a PRS every day!
