The frets do have some wear, especially the 3rd fret under the B string. There is a ding on the back of the neck, treble side, by the 5th fret. The binding around the sound hole is slightly broken by the neck. There are light pick scratches on the front of the guitar, but we've polished it up as best as we can, and it's looking great. The neck is straight, and the truss rod functions properly. Included with the guitar is the original hardshell case.

Includes the original Taylor Certificate of Authenticity and Owner Registration/Limited Warranty paperwork. The guitar is clearly identified as #33 of 100. The original transfer-of-warranty document contains a handwritten numbering error in its secondary-number field; the paperwork is otherwise original to the instrument.

An extraordinary piece of Taylor history, the 2000 GSLJ Living Jewels Koi is the guitar that launched what would become Taylor's Gallery Series. Limited to just 100 instruments worldwide, each Living Jewels guitar combines exceptional acoustic woods with some of the most elaborate and distinctive inlay work Taylor had produced to that point. This example is #33 of 100, making it a genuinely scarce piece of early Taylor history.

The Living Jewels was designed by Pete Davies Jr., who joined Taylor in 1999 and created the koi design as his first inlay project for the company. Taylor's own historical account describes the Living Jewels as the first offering of what would become the Gallery Series, with colorful koi appearing to swim along the ebony fingerboard and around the soundhole. The effect is particularly striking against the guitar's Aqua Blue Transparent finish, which was intended to evoke the appearance of water. Davies used a combination of polyester faux pearl, ColorCore, and custom composite materials incorporating ground turquoise, coral, and stone mixed with resin to create the vivid, multi-colored koi.

Beneath all that artwork is a seriously impressive acoustic guitar. The dreadnought body features a solid Sitka Spruce top and solid figured Big Leaf Maple back and sides, with the maple's dramatic quilted figure showing beautifully beneath the blue transparent finish. The ebony fingerboard and bridge, gold tuning machines with ebony buttons, cream binding, and mother-of-pearl Taylor headstock logo complete an exceptionally detailed presentation. Three additional koi form the rosette around the soundhole, tying the fingerboard artwork into the body in a way that makes the entire instrument feel like one continuous work of art. Contemporary examples of the GSLJ confirm the same dreadnought construction and combination of bearclaw spruce, figured Big Leaf Maple, ebony appointments, and Aqua Blue finish.

But this isn't a guitar that needs to be sold strictly as a collector's piece. This particular example is an outstanding-sounding acoustic guitar. Its tonal character is remarkably full, focused, and powerful, with a strong fundamental, plenty of punch, and a dry, woody quality that is unusually compelling for a Taylor. In fact, in our shop it has impressed us as one of the best-sounding Taylors we've encountered in years. It has the kind of authoritative dreadnought voice that can remind you of a great traditional American flat-top—while retaining the clarity, balance, and responsiveness that make a great Taylor so enjoyable to play.

The original Taylor documentation makes this example even more compelling. It includes the original Taylor Certificate of Authenticity and original Owner Registration/Limited Warranty paperwork, along with the original hardshell case. The period Certificate of Authenticity states that only 100 Living Jewels models were to be produced during calendar year 2000, identifies the instrument as a dreadnought made from solid maple and solid Sitka spruce, and specifically details the multi-colored koi inlay materials. The original registration card is also present and remains unfilled. Serial number 20000426150. #33 of 100.

The 2000 Taylor GSLJ Living Jewels Koi is far more than an ornate limited-edition guitar. It represents the beginning of Taylor's Gallery Series, the early work of an exceptionally talented inlay artist, and a fascinating moment in Taylor's history when traditional guitar craftsmanship met an entirely new approach to decorative artistry. With only 100 made, spectacular figured maple, an extraordinary Aqua Blue finish, some of the most distinctive inlay work ever seen on a Taylor, and the exceptional voice of this particular example, #33 is a rare opportunity to own both a genuine Taylor collectible and a truly great dreadnought acoustic.

Specs

Taylor

Made in 2000

Limited Edition - #33 of 100 Made

GSLJ Living Jewels Koi Custom

Aqua Blue Transparent Finish

Dreadnought Body Style

Highly Figured - Quilted Big Leaf Maple Back and Sides

Bearclaw Spruce Top

Koi Fish Inlays around Soundhole/on Fingerboard

Mahogany Neck Material

Ebony Fingerboard

Koi Fish Inlays on Fingerboard

Ebony Bridge Material

Schaller Tuners - Gold w/Ebony Buttons

Original Hardshell Case

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0013/6111/7231/files/DSC7790_4a51951b-1c62-4ecf-9b4d-957c7c9beee3.jpg?v=1787596789
https://musicgalleryinc.com/products/used-2000-taylor-limited-edition-gslj-living-jewels-koi-custom-grand-pacific-20000426150
