In on consignment is this Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 51 Telecaster Heavy Relic by Jason Smith. It is in great shape despite the heavy aging done at the factory. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod is functioning properly. Included with the guitar is the original hardshell case and certificate of authenticity.
Jason Smith, Masterbuilder at the Fender Custom Shop, is the son of Fender R&D Legend, Dan Smith. Jason earned his stripes apprenticing for the now deceased Masterbuilder, John English. Imagine being Tiger Woods's son, and having Jack Nicklaus as your mentor. You might even break par! Jason's necks feel like they have been broken in during 1000's of hours of play. Perfectly rolled fretboard edges, incredibly comfortable fret edges, and some of the most authentic-looking aging we have ever laid eyes on. Jason is a True Master of his craft!
This Telecaster pays homage to the early 1950's models that came with Ash body and massive Maple Necks. The 52 U Shape on this is just about as big as they get with a depth of .990" at the 1st fret that stays steady all the way up with no taper. When you are almost a full inch, there really isn't much left to taper up to! A fingerboard radius of 9.5", twenty-one 6150 frets, 25.5" scale length, and 1.650" nut width round of the specs.
The pickups are a set of Hand-Wound 51 Nocaster Single Coil's that nail the tone of the era. Snappy, poppy, bright, barking, biting in the bridge, and then warmth, sweetness, and richness in the neck combine for the perfect blend in the middle position. The hand-winding process adds extra dynamic capabilities, responding better not only to touch but to even slight changes in the volume and tone controls. This guitar is dialed in and is loaded with a shocking amount of versatility for a Tele.
Nobody treats used guitars as we do at The Music Gallery! Every trade-in goes through an inspection, cleaning, restring, and set up before being put out on sale. We even put guitars with bad frets through our Plek machine if need be. If this service piques your interest learn more here or give us a call!
