This Used 2004 Gibson Custom Shop Historic 1961 SG Les Paul in Heritage Cherry with Maestro Vibrola is in on trade and it is in great shape for its age. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod is functioning properly. The guitar is in clean cosmetic shape with nothing other than some light hardware tarnishing and light finish swirl marks worth mentioning.
In 1961, Gibson decided to switch the style of the Les Paul over to that of the SG. Much to the dismay of the actual guy, Les Paul, the SG was NOT favored by him at all! Honestly, the makes sense. The SG and Les Paul shapes could not possibly appeal to opposite body types any more! By 1968, the real Les Paul Style body was back and this weird blip has become a strange but true part of Gibson History. This Model Gibson celebrates this time period, where the SG was referred to as the Les Paul and the only Les Paul you could get was shaped like an SG!
Made with a mahogany neck and body, this is a more basic build than a Les Paul. With awesome mid-range, articulation, and balance, the SG can sing with sustain, crush with heaviness, and be surprisingly sweet. This one has the Maestro Vibrola factory-installed upon it. If you always wanted a term on a Gibson, this really is one of the 1st that comes to mind.
A fast and thin SlimTaper Neck profile is the preferred shape for many of you Rock n' Roll Types. A dark rosewood fingerboard is bound for the Classic SG Standard look. This one has a fantastic neck on it that tapers to a fuller feeling D as the frets climb.
A pair of 57 Classic Humbuckers are tied to their own volume and tone controls and is accessible via the 3-way switch. These pickups have a warm sweetness to them, perfect for singing leads, never-ending notes, and a tasty vibrato.
Nobody treats used guitars as we do at The Music Gallery! Every trade-in goes through an inspection, cleaning, restring, and set up before being put out on sale. We even put guitars with bad frets through our Plek machine if need be. If this service piques your interest learn more here or give us a call!
