This PRS John Mayer Silver Sky in Golden Mesa weighs 7 lbs 1 oz. Like the entire guitar-playing community, we were excited when the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky 1st arrived. Like all PRS guitars, the construction and design of this guitar are superb. The traditional Strat-style body shape is comfortable and lightweight. PRS' takes on the Bolt-On, with 3 pickups and a Tremolo is fine, indeed but would you expect anything less?

The 635JM single-coil pickups are very round and full, with a musical high end that is never “ice-picky” or brash. I found they lean more towards a modern tone than a typical vintage tone you will find on Fenders. The bridge pickup has a good bite and a nice mid-range grit. The neck pickup is dynamic with a nice clear low end, sweet highs, and a well-balanced midrange. The 2 and 4 positions have a nice moderate quack that works well for soloing.

The maple neck features a rosewood fretboard with birds inlays, a 7.25" fingerboard radius, and was modeled after 63/64 vintage Strats. It is nicely shaped with just the right amount of thickness. If you are used to a 9.5" radius you might find this neck will take a little getting used to.

Other high-quality specifications include a bone nut, a molded metal jack plate that is curved and makes plugging and unplugging a guitar cable hassle-free, retooled knobs, fretwire that is slightly smaller than what you’d find on most PRS electric guitars, and PRS’s double action truss rod (accessible from the front of the headstock for ease of use).

There has been a lot of talk about the PRS John Mayer Silver Sky. The minute you play it you will see why. Stop in and check it out!
