How to play Let It Be by The Beatles for Beginner Guitar with Bill Uhler

Bill Uhler here from The Music Gallery. Today we are going to take a look at The Beatles song, "Let It Be". It only has four chords in it and it is a great song for someone who has been only been playing for a month or two. It exercises some basic skills and few chords. Let's break it down and talk about the different sections of the song.

This song is in two parts. There is a verse section and a chorus section. We will go over the verse section first.

The chords in the verse are C, G, Am, and F.

C chord

If you don't know a C chord - The first finger is on the second string, first fret. The second finger is on the fourth string, second fret. The third finger is on the fifth string, third fret. We will strum that twice.

G chord

For G, we're just going to take our second and third fingers and move them down to the fifth and sixth strings. The pinky will be on the third fret of the first string.

You may have learned your G chord this way:

This is also correct, but I find its a little more convenient to just lift your second and third fingers over rather than changing the entire chord shape. Feel free to switch to your G chord in whichever way works for you.

A Minor Chord

Now we're going to play our A minor chord, which has the first finger on the second string, first fret. The second finger is on the fourth string, second fret. The third finger is on the third string, second fret. We strum from the fifth string.

F Chord

From there, we go to an F chord. For F, we cover the first two strings at the first fret with our index finger. Second finger on the third string, second fret. Third finger on the fourth string, third fret. A lot of students have a hard time flattening that first finger down to cover both strings. In the beginner, we might not have the strength or dexterity to hold every down. Don't worry too much about it. It is okay if you get a dead, clunky tone out of the first string and can't really make out the note. Eventually you will get the strength to flatten that down and get that first string in there.

If you can concentrate on just the fourth, third, and second string for now, that will be enough of the chord to make it work for this song.

Tab Example

From F, I was doing this little walk down to go back to the C chord. Those single notes I was playing after the F are the fourth string, second fret. Fourth string, open. Then, back to a C chord.

So the progression in the verse is:

Let It Be Tab

That's the verse! Now let's dig into the chorus.

The chorus of this song starts on an A minor chord and goes like this:

Let it Be Chorus
