Marissa Barnette | Teachers at The Music Gallery of Highland Park
Marissa Barnette is a passionate performer and educator. She has been performing vocals professionally for 6 years in various settings, including as a front woman for Chicagoland rock bands, Lunar Chiefs and Heavy Metal Horns. Today, she performs in a guitar + voice duo, Acoustic Generation, bringing music from all genres and decades to life. Marissa’s background in classical vocal performance, choir, and musical theater sustained her vocal chops as she went on to perform heavy-lifting rock vocals.
Marissa’s experience in plentiful music genres provides her the wisdom to foster students’ unique music taste. After earning her Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree in Music Education from Lake Forest College, she currently teaches here at The Music Gallery and serves as Choir Director at Wilmette Junior High School and Associate Choir Conductor for El Sistema Ravinia. Having taught 200+ students, ages 5-55+, Marissa has a knack for catering instruction to be personable, individualized and developmentally appropriate for all ages and skill levels.
With a singer-songwriter as a father, Marissa has a deep-rooted belief in teaching creativity through music. She has composed her own folk + jazz songs, witty raps, and as well as a choir piece performed in New York, March ‘23. She believes musical creativity is the most empowering gift that music can provide, and makes it her mission to help students find their voice through music.
