Meet our Guitar Techs.
George MacPhail: Better known as "The Doctor", has been tinkering with guitars since the early 1960's and has worked at The Music Gallery since 1975. George has personally repaired or adjusted over 20,000 instruments. Considered to be a walking encyclopedia, George has forgotten more than most will know! George is also our Plek Tech. He was trained by the legendary Joe Glaser in Nashville on how to use the Plek Machine.
Chip Jurkovac: Starting at Dean Guitars in 1980, Chip participated in all aspects of guitar construction. After honing his skills in parts installation, set-ups and fret leveling he moved on to the finishing department. In 1986 Chip left the Dean Guitar Co. to work in the finishing department of Hamer Guitars where he would stay for 2 years. In 1988 Chip joined The Music Gallery staff as our main Repair Tech and after 27 years is still going strong with several thousand happy customers. His abilities range from the best setups around to immaculate fretwork, refinishing, rewiring, you name it! The other guys at the store are pretty capable of handling most of their own work, but they are more than willing to have Chip work on their guitars.

Testimonials
"Chip Jurkovac at the Music Gallery (Highland Park) is my #1, and not just because he's in my hometown. I've had many pros set up my guitars, and he's the best I've experienced. Chip is also just about the nicest guy you could hope to meet."
"+1 for Chip @ The Music Gallery. He has done work on many of my guitars. Great tech and person. I live about 25 minutes away now but still take all my stuff there. That's north suburbs but just off the Edens at 22."
"Had my 1998 Les Paul Standard DC plek'd yesterday by George over at The Music Gallery in Highland Park IL. The guitar came out GREAT. This is my first experience with a Plek and I'm very happy. Feels like a whole new guitar. I had a few "choking" notes on bends and they are completely gone. I set the action low and it plays effortlessly. The guys at Music Gallery were great and George took the time to explain the whole process. He showed me the computer scans and let me watch some of the frets getting cut. It was real interesting to see how unlevel the frets were before the Plek."
"George is a GREAT tech, and also just a fun guy to hang out and talk to"
"Just had my second guitar PLEK'd at the MG. George does an amazing job. Super detailed. Plays way better now!
The customer service here is top shelf. Check them out. I am impressed."
"George is the real deal. Friendly knowledge backed up with experience. When I brought in an average Les Paul in need of attention, George took it and created a guitar that I'm am really bonding with. He told me that when he was finished it would be better than new and he delivered a true Les Paul to me. Thanks and I can't wait for my next project!"
"The Music Gallery is the ONLY place I will trust my guitars with. The repair team is quite literally the most experienced and knowledgable I've ever worked with. They are truly "Guitar Whisperers". Every guitar I've brought in comes back absolutely perfect."
"I'll personally vouch for an excellent plek setup on my 513 and a modern wiring upgrade on my CU 22. Nice job!"
