Bob Taylor and Kurt Listug started Taylor Guitars in 1974 — the same year The Music Gallery opened! After partnering up to purchase a small guitar-making shop called The American Dream in Lemon Grove, California, where the two had been working, Bob and Kurt began a journey that over time has transformed their shop into a world-class manufacturer of premium acoustic guitars, employing over 1,400 people and operating two state-of-the-art factories: one in El Cajon, California (just east of San Diego), and the other less than a hour away in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico. From their Baby Taylor to their Presentation and Custom Series, Taylor delivers consistent quality, performance and value, and the company’s guitars are heralded as some of the best-playing in the world, thanks in part to their innovative blend of high-tech manufacturing and meticulous craftsmanship.
Tried-and-true tonewoods like rosewood and mahogany, along with other beautiful woods responsibly sourced from around the world, bring incredible musical diversity to the Taylor product line. Genuine West African ebony fingerboards and bridges can be found on just about every Taylor guitar, as well as solid tops of either spruce or other hardwoods such as mahogany or highly figured Hawaiian koa. If you desire to have something truly unique for you that will live on as a family heirloom, Taylor Guitars can craft you the finest, most visually striking custom guitar that can be handed down for generations.
With a sleek neck profile and a patented neck design, Taylor playability is legendary, and both experienced and novice players agree that no acoustic guitar plays as smooth as a Taylor — as easy as a well-made electric guitar! The neck design ensures that every guitar is easily serviceable and can be precisely adjusted to meet each player’s preference. This unparalleled build quality brings a consistency to every nuance of your Taylor guitar – from feel to sound to aesthetic details.
While sound quality can be very subjective, Taylor master builder Andy Powers has introduced groundbreaking voicing architecture such as his patented V-Class bracing to Taylor’s instruments, increasing their all-around musicality and improving the intonation so notes sing more harmoniously than ever. It’s also a versatile tone-enhancing platform, which means that you’ll find a diverse array of sonic personalities with the line. In other words, there’s a Taylor for every type of player!
