This Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 1960 Stratocaster Relic by Yuriy Shishkov. It is one of our all time favorite builds, based on the John Cruz Master Design Stratocaster from yeas ago, so we've had all the Masterbuilders take a stab at it over the years.
So, the Fender Custom Shop has stopped taking orders for Yuriy Shishkov. Between his current backlog and age, it just doesn't make sense to keep piling orders on him. So, what we have here will likely be one of, if not the last of, guitars we'll see from Yuriy. Known for incredible functional-art pieces like the Violincaster, jaw-dropping inlay work, top-tier wood selection, if you've never played a Yuriy, the feeling is hard to explain.
And while his specialty isn't the relic process, you wouldn't know it by looking at this beauty. Being a fairly heavy relic, this one features a neck that is stripped of lacquer, arm wear through the finish, rashing on the back, along with dings, dents, weather checking, and all the other hallmarks of a well-worn guitar!
An under-the-hood touch worth mentioning is a brass tremolo block which imparts a little extra warmth and sustain to this Strat. Crank up a Princeton Reverb, dial up some reverb, and back off on the guitar and it is sweet, warm, rich, but with the clarity of a single-coil. The pickups are a set based on the Master Design Stratocaster that former Masterbuilder John Cruz designed.
