This Used 2023 Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt '63 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic by Paul Waller with a Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard in Shell Pink is here on consignment. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod functions properly. Included with the guitar are the certificate of authenticity and original hardshell case.
The guitar was purchased new from us about a little over a year ago, and it has seen very little play due to being part of a very large collection.
So, the Shop Traveler does not indicate this guitar features a Color-Over-Color design, but the wear spot on the body contour clearly shows Black and Yellow/Orange. So, this guitar does have a Color-over-Color scheme, despite not having been ordered that way!
Aside from that anomaly, this is a great build by Masterbuilder Paul Waller. Paul builds nothing but top-tier instruments, and we've been lucky enough to have him come to the store for a Fender Custom Shop Dealer event!
The neck is made from Quartersawn Maple, and it is topped with a Brazilian Rosewood Fingerboard. Because of this, it features the "For USA Only" stamp on the back of the headstock. The back of the neck has its finish thinned out a bit in spots, though it's not stripped. It's an exceptionally comfortable neck, with very typical early 60s depth dimensions of .79"-.93". The fingerboard radius is 9.5", and it has 6105 frets on it.
A trio of Hand-wound, '60s spec single coil pickups is installed which have warmth, sweetness, and a bell-like top-end for a perfectly 60s sounding Strat! The rosewood fingerboard swallows the explosive and brighter edge of a Maple Fingerboard, making this more suited for Rock, Blues, Jazz, any style in which you aren't trying to cut through the mix with as much treble as possible.
