The Martin D-10E Retro Left-Handed is a great example of why Martin's Road Series has become such a popular part of the lineup. You get a full-size Dreadnought built with a solid spruce top and solid sapele back and sides, scalloped X-bracing, a comfortable modern neck, and a vintage-inspired look that feels right at home on a Martin. Add Martin's E-1 electronics and a softshell case, and you've got a serious acoustic-electric that's ready to work.

The Dreadnought has been at the center of Martin's acoustic guitar lineup for generations, and the D-10E gives you that familiar combination of volume, projection, and low-end authority without getting overly complicated. Sapele brings a focused, balanced character to the equation, while the spruce top adds plenty of headroom and dynamic response. The scalloped X-bracing helps the guitar open up and gives it the punch and projection you'd expect from a Martin Dreadnought.

The neck is one of the reasons this feels like a modern Martin rather than a vintage recreation. The Performing Artist profile and High-Performance Taper are comfortable and familiar, with a 1 3/4" nut and 25.4" scale. The Ebony fingerboard has Style 28 faux Mother-of-Pearl dot inlays, while the 20-fret, 14-fret body joint gives you plenty of room to move around the neck.

Visually, the D-10E Retro borrows some of the understated charm of Martin's older guitars. The Aging Toner on the satin spruce top, black binding, faux tortoise pickguard, nickel open-gear tuners, and Brazilian Rosewood-pattern HPL headplate give it a classic look without making the guitar feel fussy. It's a working man's Martin—in the best possible way.

The onboard Martin E-1 electronics keep things equally straightforward. You get a built-in chromatic tuner along with volume, tone, and phase controls, making it easy to get plugged in and ready to go without adding a bunch of unnecessary hardware to the guitar.

And, of course, this one is left-handed, which makes it considerably more interesting if you're a southpaw looking for a full-size Martin Dreadnought. It's a lot of guitar for the money, and it has the kind of straightforward, dependable personality that makes a Martin easy to live with for a very long time.
