It's been a while since we've seen a Martin D-42 Acoustic Guitar in Natural and it is a sight for sore eyes! We've been seeing lots of Martins roll in under the 2k mark but the 40 Series is our shop favorites. The 42 is the slightly less blinged-out brother of the 45. Don't get me wrong, it's stunning, its bling is just a little more forward-facing.
The Sitka Spruce Top is finished with Martin's Aging Toner. This gives the top a darker hue, a little vintage amber tint, if you will. The top is braced with Sitka Spruce braces that have been scalloped for the utmost in volume, resonance, tone, and sustain. The braces are also forward-shifted which helps gives this Dreadnaught a thick and thumping low end.
The back and sides are made from premium East Indian Rosewood. This revered tonewood is as musical as it is beautiful. Loaded with rich bass, this Dreadnaught can fill a room with sound or it can whisper with clarity while finger picking.
The neck is made from Genuine Mahogany, this good stuff is being reserved for the higher-end Martin guitars these days. The fingerboard is made from some jet black Ebony and the look is quite striking. Style 45 Snowflake Inlays made from Abalone adorn the fingerboard and elevate the look to yet another level. The neck profile is the Modified Low Oval with the High-Performance Taper. While we all have our personal preferences, this neck and taper are appreciated by most who check it out.
Other noteworthy accouterments include all the Abalone Inlay on the top, ebony bridge, bone nut, compensated bone saddle, and it was Pleked during the construction process making this guitar play buzz-free right out of the box.
