This Martin Custom Shop Super D - Koa is an Expert Dealer Exclusive Model! This acoustic guitar is brand new, comes with its original hardshell case, and full manufacturer's warranty.
The body on the Super D shares the same depth as a typical Dreadnaught model but the back and top are larger. This increased surface area and internal air volume allow for a loud(er) guitar. This is a BIG guitar. If a dread is pushing your comfort boundaries, the Super D will be too much for you!
The 3-piece back and sides are made from Highly FIgured Koa, an incredible tonewood with looks to match. The gorgeous, book matched outer panels are a bit share similar figuring while the middle panel offers a unique wavy grain along with some beautiful figuring. This wood provides a bright and focused tone. Less bass than Rosewood, punchy mid-range, and a brilliant top-end are all yours to enjoy with every strum.
The top is made from VTS Treated Spruce. That is what Martin calls their heat-treating process that reduces the moisture content and makes a piece of wood more dimensionally stable. The braces are also made from Spruce and are scalloped for the utmost in resonance and volume.
The neck is carved from Genuine Mahogany to the Modified Low Oval Profile with the High-Performance Taper. This is a very easy neck to play, even for long sessions and shows. The fingerboard is made from Ebony which is inlaid with Abalone in Martin's Diamond and Squares Pattern. Its Nut Width measures 1.75" and scale length is 25.4". Thanks to common neck spec choices, this is a familiar playing guitar despite its enlarged dimensions.
The Super D is available only at Martin's Custom Expert Dealers. The Music Gallery is proud to be an Expert Dealer! These models come and go very quickly so please give us a call or send us a message to learn more about this Most-Likely-to-Sell Super D!
From the Martin Website...
While Martin has previously produced a slightly oversized instrument in the form of the D-45S Authentic 1936 inspired by an instrument from the C.F. Martin Museum Collection, this Super Dreadnought (The Super D) is now the largest body size in Martin’s product line. It has an internal air volume approximately twenty percent greater than the standard Dreadnought, which effectively boosts the bass output while maintaining accurate mid and treble frequencies. It also includes a new proprietary bracing pattern to maximize tone and volume. The Super D acoustic testing revealed favorable gains of up to 12dB compared to a standard Dreadnought in a controlled environment. The Super D can achieve an extended dynamic range with more volume and with less effort than any other instrument bearing the C.F. Martin logo. The outward appearance is proportional and remains true to the legendary Dreadnought shape. Standard scale length and standard depth allow this special new design to be easily played by artists of all skill levels and across a multitude of music genres. This model is available with high flame koa or Guatemalan rosewood back and sides.
