The Martin D-28 Modern Deluxe Acoustic guitar offers a classic, quintessential Martin Guitar but combined with some modern features that make it the perfect choice. A classic Sitka Spruce Top was selected but it has undergone Martin's VTS Heat Treatment to make it sound more like a well-broken in guitar. Jescar's Gold EVO frets up the durability and provides a lifetime of functionality. Read on to learn more about this boundary-pushing model from C.F. Martin and Co!
The Sitka Spruce Top has undergone Martin's VTS Process which stands for Vintage Tone System. This process removes moisture, sap, and resin, aging the cellular structure of the wood so that it looks more like a much older piece of wood when viewed under a microscope. Just about every manufacturer has gotten hip to Roasting, Heat Treating, or Cooking moisture out of their woods. The scalloped, forward-shifted braces are also made from VTS treated Adirondack Spruce.
The back and sides are made from Indian Rosewood, which has been the tone-timbre of choice for the 28 series since its inception. This harmonically dense tonewood give us rich bass, articulate mids, and a sweet bell-like top end that just begs to be played.
The mahogany neck is carved to an Assymetyrical Vintage Deluxe Profile with the High-Performance Taper. This is an exceptionally comfortable and playable neck profile that allows for hours of play or practice. The fingerboard is made from Ebony and has a 16" fingerboard radius. Jescar's EVO Frets are used on the Modern Deluxe Series and, as someone who plays these frets exclusively due to a Nickel Allergy, I can attest to their longevity and superiority to any German Silver fret. 1.75" nut width and 25.4" scale length round out the neck specs.

The D-28 Modern Deluxe is a new take on Martin Vintage. This guitar is packed with custom features and modern technology that you have to see, feel, and hear for yourself. The vintage appointments include a Sitka spruce Vintage Tone System (VTS) top, a dovetail neck joint, and natural protein glue construction that give it the rich, fully aged Martin tone that has inspired generations. The look is unlike anything in our production line to date with European flamed maple binding, stylish gold frets, gold open-gear tuners, and a unique 1930s style script logo inlaid in pearl on the headstock. Some ultra-modern features include Liquidmetal® bridge pins with red dots and a composite carbon fiber bridgeplate that boosts volume. And we’ve included a new neck shape that is slightly asymmetrical for maximum hand comfort up and down the fretboard. This guitar is anything but standard.
