This Fender Custom Shop 63 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Masterbuilt by Paul Waller in Sherwood Green Metallic features a Brazilian rosewood fingerboard, handwound pickups, and weighs 7 lbs 11 oz.
Paul Waller truly is a Masterbuilder and a heck of a nice guy! We were lucky enough to have him come to the shop years ago, along with the Fender Roadshow. Paul has built some phenomenal pieces for some phenomenal musicians (google Fender Orange Chicken to see something cool). This Strat features a Journeyman Level of Relic'ing applied to it, with some small chips, some dings, and dents, along with some weather checking. It looks like it's been played but not abused. Finished in Seminole Red, a less often seen color that is quite cool.
The neck is made from quartersawn maple and carved to a 60s Style Oval C profile. The fingerboard is made from Brazilian Rosewood, arguably the most revered tonewood on the planet! The neck measures .790" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th fret. It has a classic feeling '60s vibe, thin at the lower frets with a nice taper on the way up the board. Other neck specs include a 9.5" fingerboard radius, 6105 frets, 1.650" nut width, and 25.5" scale length.
The pickups are a set of hand-wound 60s spec Stratocaster single-coils and they sound beautiful. They have incredible touch sensitivity, fantastic dynamic response, and they respond to volume and tone changes on a whole other level. Other electronic accouterments include a master volume, 2 tone controls, and a 5-way pickup selector switch.
