Not only is this Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt '63 Stratocaster Relic by Austin MacNutt in Aged Desert Sand exceptional, but it also weighs just 6 lbs 14 oz, which is extremely lightweight for an Alder/Maple/Rosewood Strat!
The Aged Desert Sand Finish is aged to perfection. It has been darkened a bit thanks to the perfect patina applied by Austin MacNutt. You'll notice some blue exposed in some spots. This guitar features a Color-Over-Color finish, which, along with the aging, gives this guitar some serious depth. Austin chose Desert Sand over Blue Agave. The 3 Ply Tortoise Shell Pickguard is a great choice, and it ties the look up tight.
A trio of Josefina Handwound Ancho Poblano Pickups is installed in this guitar. These single-coil pickups bring the heat and some extra oomph for those looking to push their amp into overdrive. They clean up and back off incredibly well with subtle changes to the onboard controls. The bottom tone control is the blender control that many players have come to appreciate.
The neck is made from quartersawn maple and carved to a 60s oval C. It's measrures .79" deep at the 1st fret and .93" at the 12th. It's a familiar profile for anyone who has played a few early 60s style Strats. It has a 9.5" fingerboard radius and 6105 frets. The Indian Rosewood fingerboard is quite striking. It's obvious that some real time was spent making sure the overall feel of the neck is top-notch.
