The Gretsch G5220 Electromatic Jet BT Single-Cut with V-Stoptail in Jade Grey Metallic is one of those instruments that leave you wondering how did Gretsch pack so much guitar into such an affordable package? A Mahogany Body and neck, set neck design, and a magnificent sounding pair of Black Top Broad'Tron Pickups combine for an unbelievable playing experience.
The neck is made from mahogany and is carved to a thin U profile. The fingerboard is made from Black Walnut, carries a 12" fingerboard radius, and 22 medium jumbo frets. 24.6" scale length keeps the strings feeling slinky while 1.6875" Nut Width puts the strings in just the right place.
The body is made from chambered mahogany and then topped with a laminate maple top. This is a classic tonewood combo that has been working quite well since the 1950s. Guitars like the Gibson ES-335 have been crafted using these types of materials since 1958! Chambering the body helps keeps the weight manageable so this guitar weighs in at 8 lbs 5 oz.
The pickups are a pair of Gretsch Black Top Broad'Tron Humbuckers that do quite a convincing TV Jones impersonation! They have a beautiful top-end jangle to them along with a fat, beefy, round n' hollow low-end that sits incredibly well in the mix. Each pickup has its own volume controls, while there is a Master Volume. and Master Tone Controls. A 3-way toggle grants access to each pickup on its own or in tandem.
