This Martin Custom Shop D-42K Hawaiian Koa Acoustic Guitar is one-of-a-kind! With hand-selected wood sourced from Hawaii, the prices on these models keep going up as the resources are dwindling. If exceptional Koa has been on your radar, act fast!
Let's start with the bracing... just kidding! This guitar is stunning! Not only due to the wood that was selected but also the various 40 Series aesthetic touches like the multiple top inlays in stunning abalone, the fingerboard inlays, the headstock binding, and the headplate inlay. Eye-catching, to say the least, this guitar has something to appreciate at every stop along the way.
The entire body is made from Exceptional Grade Hawaiian Koa. The top, back, and sides, along with every inch of each panel offer some of the most beautiful looking wood you've ever seen. This wood produces a tone very similar to mahogany but with added top-end brilliance, a nice compliment to an all-mahogany guitar since they can be a bit on the dark side. Hawaiian Koa is getting hard to find and the top-tier stuff is priced accordingly.
The neck is made with genuine mahogany and carved to the Modifed Low Oval Neck profile with the high-performance taper. The fingerboard is made from a piece of jet-black Ebony that looks great and feels as smooth as glass. The fingerboard is bound for a look to match the body, as is the headstock. Gold Tuning Pegs set off the look perfectly.
The bridge is made from Ebony and is carved to the Modern Belly Shape. A bone bridge saddle is compensated for added intonation.
