This Used 1993 Fender Custom Shop 40th Anniversary Playboy Marilyn Monroe Stratocaster 21 of 175 is here on consignment. It has never been played and has been stored as a collectible for the last almost 30 years. This is a true collectible and many of you have likely seen the Marilyn we have as part of our complete Diamond Collection! This is NOT our guitar we are selling it on consignment. Included with the guitar is the original flight case along with all the original paperwork, strap, and sash. This guitar DOES have a diamond inlaid into the Fender Logo on the headstock.
The Marilyn Monroe Strat as it's known isn't seen all that often, mostly due to its NSFW nature making it a tough one to post on social media or websites. Occasionally they do pop up and they always catch people's attention. With Artwork executed by Pamelina H..
John Page and Pamelina H. collaborated on the design of this instrument, which would go on to be the Artist's 1st production run with the company. The artwork features Tom Kelly’s iconic Marylin Monroe nude photograph featured in a 1949 Playboy calendar, hand-painted by artist Pamelina H. Other notable visuals includeArt Paul's classic bunny fingerboard inlays in dark abalone. These inlays absolutely elevate the look of the guitar to a whole new level! Next is LeRoy Neiman's "Femlin" character and 40th anniversary bunny on the headstock. These iconic logo and symbols solidify the co-branding between Fender and Playboy. Even the backplate is Gold and etched to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the Strat. While not well-known as an Anniversary Model per se, let's just agree that the Playboy affiliation and Marilyn Artwork eclipse the coolness factor of an Anniversary Edition!
On top of the captivating imagery on this guitar, it's actually quite cool in terms of specs. The body is made from Alder, the most often used tonewood by Fender throughout the history of the company. Under the artwork, the guitar is finished in Black, a classic Fender color. The artwork covers much of the body of the guitar, the pickguard, and the pickup covers, utilizing the space perfectly.
The neck is made from Birdseye Maple and is shaped to a C profile. The fingerboard radius is 9.5" and Vintage Frets were selected. This radius and fret combo is the same as you'll find on a Clapton Strat, however, the neck profile itself is different. The fingerboard inlays are made from Dark Abalone and are shaped like the Playboy Bunny Head. This is about as cool as it gets! These inlays look amazing and offer a fresh look over the dots. 1 and 11/16" nut width is slightly wider than a vintage Fender and 25.5" scale length is a classic Fender spec, which keeps the strings feeling taut and sounding snappy. A Red Fender logo adorns the headstock, along with a topless cartoon female, and a Playboy-Meets-Fender 40th-anniversary logo that is inlaid with a Diamond.
The Pickups are a Set of Lace Sensor Single Coil Pickups. These really were the go-to pickup of choice for many players during the mid to late 1990s. While time and preference have moved on, these pickups ended up on thousands of recordings during the era and have subsequently earned their place in recording history. A master volume, 2-tone controls, and a 5-way pickup selector switch round out the electronics. Even the pickup covers are part of the All-Over Artwork scheme design by Pamelina H. A set of gold Hat Shaped Knobs elevate the look even further.
Included with this guitar is the original SKB Flight Case with its Red Leather Gigbag and matching leather Playboy Guitar Strap. A red silk cover for the body is also included as are all the original papers, and pieces of case candy that shipped with the guitar are included.
