This guitar is in great shape. It is clean cosmetically with nothing negative to report, and it is fully functioning. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod functions properly. Included with the guitar are the original hardshell case, hang tag/paperwork, and tremolo arm.
This is one of those PRS guitars that looks like it belongs in a glass case until you pick it up and realize it's actually a ridiculously capable player's guitar. This 2020 PRS 35th Anniversary Custom 24 10-Top in Yellow Tiger combines the iconic Custom 24 platform with a handful of special touches that make the anniversary edition considerably more interesting than a standard Custom 24. You've got a beautiful 10-Top figured maple cap, 85/15 pickups, the Gen III tremolo, Phase III locking tuners, and—most importantly—the independent coil-tap switches borrowed from Paul's Guitar. It's a seriously cool PRS from a particularly significant year for the company.
The Custom 24 is the guitar that really put PRS on the map. Paul Reed Smith debuted the original Custom 24 at the 1985 Winter NAMM show, and the model has remained the company's defining solidbody ever since. So celebrating 35 years of PRS with a special Custom 24 makes perfect sense. Rather than simply changing the cosmetics, PRS used the anniversary model as an opportunity to incorporate some of the switching ideas that had become part of Paul's own guitars. The result is a Custom 24 that looks familiar but gives you substantially more tonal flexibility.
The body is classic PRS: a mahogany back topped with a beautifully figured, carved 10-Top maple cap. Yellow Tiger is one of those finishes that really lets the maple do the talking, and on a proper 10-Top, the figuring is the star of the show. The mahogany neck is fitted with a rosewood fingerboard and PRS's Pattern Regular profile, giving this guitar a substantial but extremely comfortable feel. With 24 frets and a 25" scale, you've got the full range and familiar in-between-the-Fender-and-Gibson scale length that has always been part of the Custom 24's appeal.
The electronics are where this particular Custom 24 gets really interesting. PRS equipped the 35th Anniversary model with its 85/15 treble and bass humbuckers, controlled by a master volume and tone, a three-way toggle, and two independent mini-toggle coil taps. Each pickup can be switched between its full humbucking mode and a single-coil configuration independently, giving you a remarkably broad range of sounds without covering the top of the guitar with controls. It's essentially Paul's Guitar thinking applied to the Custom 24.
The 85/15 pickups are a particularly good match for the Custom 24 concept. They're articulate enough to take advantage of the guitar's natural clarity, but there's plenty of punch and authority when you dig in. Leave both pickups in humbucking mode and you've got the familiar thick PRS thing; start engaging the coil taps and the guitar gets leaner, snappier, and considerably more open. It's a genuinely useful system rather than a bunch of switches that look impressive on a spec sheet but never get touched.
PRS also gave the 35th Anniversary model some nice period-inspired details, including the smaller “pre-factory” eagle inlay on the headstock and a dedicated 35th Anniversary truss rod cover. The Phase III locking tuners get faux bone buttons, while the Gen III tremolo is the same proven design PRS has used throughout the Core lineup. It's the sort of detail work that makes this feel like a proper anniversary instrument rather than a standard Custom 24 with a commemorative sticker.
And then there's that Yellow Tiger. A PRS 10-Top in a finish like this is pretty much impossible to make boring. The figured maple, carved top, bird inlays, and PRS body shape all work together in that unmistakably high-end PRS way. It's flashy, sure—but it's also elegant, and the underlying instrument is every bit as serious as the finish suggests.
For somebody who wants a Core PRS with a little more personality and a lot more tonal flexibility than a standard Custom 24, this 35th Anniversary model is a fantastic choice. It celebrates the original PRS design while borrowing one of Paul's more useful ideas, and the result is a guitar that's every bit as fun to play as it is to look at.
