This PRS DGT SIgnature 10 Top in Orange Tiger is brand new and weighs 8 lbs even. A DGT or David Grissom Trem is an exceptionally cool and classy-looking guitar. But to ignore the fantastic playability and wonderful tones this guitar emits would be criminal! This is one toneful beast!
The DGT is based on a McCarty Model and sports the classic combo of maple and mahogany for its body. In the world of humbuckers, that certainly is the preferred tonewood cocktail which aids in sustain and adds some top-end clarity. As with all Paul Reed Smith Guitars, this guitar features a beautifully carved dish with scrapped binding for defining lines that follow the contouring of the body. The top of this guitar has received the 10 Top Rating, indicated on the back of the headstock. It's a gorgeous piece of wood with a perfectly executed burst to show it off!
The neck is made from Mahogany and carved to the DGT Neck Profile. This is a Vintage feeling neck with a full feel and tall frets. The fingerboard is made from Rosewood and sports the Moon Inlays. The typical PRS Scale Length of 25" gives the strings a perfect feel: not too taut, not too loose. The guitar comes strung with 11s so it does carry a bit more tension than average, though going with a thinner string would surely rectify that!
A pair of DGT Humbuckers come factory installed in the Grissom. It took David Grissom and PRS GUitars 40, that's Four Zero sets of pickups before they decided on their final formulation. Each pickup has its own volume control along with a corresponding coil tap for its pickup. A master tone control and a 3-way pickup toggle round out the electric components.
