This Gibson Custom Shop Murphy Lab 1954 Les Paul Goldtop Reissue Heavy Aged in Double Gold weighs 8 lbs 5 oz. With a wraparound bridge and a pair of P-90 pickups, the 54 Les Paul Reissue stands out!
The 1954 Les Paul is an easy one to identify. It's a classic LP in many ways: mahogany body, carved maple top, 2 pickups, 2 volumes, 2 tones, etc... But with its wrap-around bridge and pair of P-90 pickups, this is the one that is not like the others! It has a full-feeling neck profile on it, not for the Slim Taper fan, this one has some meat on it but not so much that it's unplayable. The guitar rings with sustain and resonance with a strong acoustic tone. Plugged in, it has a distinct tone to it that nails that early-mid 50s Gibson tone.
"From Freddie King to Jeff Beck, many great pickers have been attracted the unique character of the "wraparound" tailpiece of a 1954 Les Paul™ Goldtop. Some believe its direct link to the body stud screws maximizes sustain while others believe the wraparound bar creates a distinct tonality and vocal quality. Whatever the case, there is certainly something special about this early year in the Les Paul Model's history and Gibson Custom Shop created this '54 Reissue to perfectly recapture the look, feel, and tone of the originals. It features Heavy Aging by the skilled artisans of the Murphy Lab. The Murphy Lab Heavy Aged finish treatment, paired with heavily aged hardware, simulates decades of heavy play wear, giving it the unique character, vibe, and feel of an original example from the Gibson Golden Era."
