This Used 2003 Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Les Paul Standard Reissue Gold Top is in on consignment. After being cleaned up, restrung, and set-up, this guitar is looking, sounding, and playing like a dream. The neck is straight, the frets are still crowned, and the truss rod is functioning properly. There are a few dings and dents on the body but nothing that affects functionality. Included with the guitar is the original hardshell case which does carry some cosmetic wear but all the latches and the handle are functional. We did not get the certificate along with the guitar.
The 1957 Les Paul Standard marks an important year of transition for Gibson as a whole. The introduction of the PAF Humbucker took place in 57 and the sound of Rock n Roll (amongst other genres) would never be the same! The pickups for this guitar are the Burstbucker 1 in the Neck and 2 in the Bridge. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control and is then accessible alone or in tandem via the 3-way pickup toggle.
The Gold Top, as it's known, has 3 configurations. The 54 with a wrap-around bridge and P90 pickups. The 56 with ABR and Stop Tail along with P90 Pickups, and then the 57 with the 2 piece bridge and a pair of humbuckers. The 57 is certainly the most popular at our shop.
The body is made from a single piece of mahogany. You can see the uninterrupted grain on the back of the guitar quite easily. The top is made from carved maple. This tonewood combination offers thick tones with amazing top-end compression.
It also has a Chunky but very playable C Shaped neck profile. The neck is made from mahogany and is topped with a rosewood fingerboard. The fingerboard is bound for that classic Gibson look and feel. The fingerboard sports the timeless Trapezoid Inlays and a 12" fingerboard radius. 1 and 11/16" nut width and 24.75" scale length team together for a quintessential feeling Gibson playing experience. This guitar has the Long Neck Tenon in which the end of the neck runs about halfway through the neck humbucker cavity.
