This Fender Custom Shop Masterbuilt 56 Stratocaster Relic by Greg Fessler in Shell Pink is astounding! It is a Heavy Relic with all the wear and tear you'd expect to see on some Rockstar's #1 who trekked the planet, playing shows for decades. The neck feels like a perfectly broken-in pair of jeans, un-deniably comfortable! A set of hand-wound pickups all but guarantees that the tones of this guitar are well above average. Greg Fessler has been delivering nothing but 'stop you in your tracks', killer relics. Scroll on to learn everything you need to know about this FEATHER-WEIGHT Masterbuilt Masterpiece!
The body is made from 2 pieces of light-weight Ash which helps the guitar to weigh in at a mere 6 lbs 15 oz! This is an absolute anomaly these days as the light-weight Swamp Ash supply ain't what it used to be! Many folks have spent years trying to find a sub 7 lb Strat and as many know by now, Swamp Ash will not be used as heavily by Fender moving forward in an attempt to help the tonewood recover. Learn all about Swamp Ash and why this tonewood has such a storied place in electric guitar history. The guitar was finished in Shell Pink and then heavily distressed by Greg Fessler. This guitar oozes mojo, from the arm wear to the darkened checking, the tactile quality of the wear above the pickguard... every aspect of this guitar is tasty. Did I mention SIX POUNDS, FIFTEEN OUNCES?!
The neck is made from a 5/4 piece of quarter-sawn maple. When you cut wood at this angle, it is more stable than if it were flat sawn. The neck is shaped to a 10/56 V Profile. This much-loved neck shape starts with a V at the nut which morphs into a C/U around the 7th to 9th frets. The fingerboard radius is a 9.5" and there are 21, 6105 fret installed. This is a very playable neck with expertly rolled fingerboard edges and smooth as can be fret ends
The electronics include a set of hand-wound, 1956 Stratocaster Spec Single Coil pickups with a Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity middle pickup for noise-free operation in positions 2 and 4. These pickups display an ability to interact with subtle changes in the Volume and Tone controls in an exceptionally musical way. With greater dynamic range comes greater expression and this Strat excels at providing both!
