This Fender Custom Shop 62 Stratocaster Heavy Relic Masterbuilt by Greg Fessler in Faded Fiesta Red over Black weighs in at 7 lbs 12 oz. Greg Fessler nailed the Heavy Relicing on this Strat with every type of wear and tear aside from Cigarette burns. It even has a color-over-color finish which is something Fender used to do back in the day when they received Custom Color orders. Other awesome mentionables include a lightweight Alder Body, Hand-Wound Pickups, and a Quarter-sawn Maple neck with a AAA Rosewood Fingerboard!
Greg Fessler has been churning out exceptional heavy relics and we are always excited to get another one! Greg did a great job allowing the Black Finish under the Faded Fiesta Red to peak out in spots, adding layers and dimensionality to its visual vibe. Not only does it look cool but it feels amazing! Heavy Relics have this tactile quality that smooth-as-glass-guitars are missing.
The body is made from 2 pieces of Alder. The pieces were selected for their lightweight which helps the guitar weigh 7 lbs 12 oz. Traditional woods are getting a little heavier these days but this guitar is very well-balanced. Alder is the most often used tonewood throughout Fender's history and it makes for the perfect Strat! It is finished in Faded Fiesta Red over Black and then heavily distressed.
The neck is made from a 5/4 Quartersawn piece of Maple and it is carved into a 60s style oval C profile. It measures in at .790" deep at the 1st fret and .930" at the 12th fret. The fingerboard is made from a 9mm thick, AAA-rated piece of Dark Indian Rosewood and carries a 9.5" fingerboard radius. 21 Narrow Tall 6105 Frets give us an easy surface to work where big bends and vibrato are a breeze. A bone nut at 1.650" wide provides a familiar feel while 25.5" scale length keeps the strings feeling taut and sounding snappy!
A set of Hand-Wound Fat 60s Stratocaster Single Coil Pickups are firmly rooted in the tones of the early 1960s but with the understanding that many of us play through modern amps. The tonal tweaks made to these pickups make sure they sound phenomenal no matter what source you are running them through thanks to increased bass response. The Fat 60s Pickups are made with Formvar Magnet Wire, a reverse-wound reverse-polarity middle pickup for noise-free operation in positions 2 and 4, beveled Alnico 2 Magnets, period-correct cloth wire, and fiber bobbins. A master volume, two tone controls, and a 5-way pickup selector switch allow us access to all the quintessential tones produced by a great Strat.
