The Gibson SG Special pairs 2 P-90 Pickups with a solid mahogany body. The tones are loaded with mid-range, biting, and snarling when you want them to be, but smooth and warm when you need it. Each pickup has its own volume and tone control. A 3-way pickup toggle grants access to each pickup or both in tandem.
The neck is made from Mahogany and is carved to a Slim Taper Profile. This is a thin, fast-playing neck that many rock, metal, and shredder types gravitate towards. The fingerboard is made with Rosewood, has a 12" radius, 22 medium jumbo frets, and is bound. The nut width is 1.694" and the nut material is Graph Tech.
As mentioned previously, the body is made from Mahogany. It's finished in a 100% nitrocellulose Ebony Finish. The simplified approach to the SG helps make it a more affordable choice than a Les Paul. The SG is also usually a couple pounds lighter than a Les Paul, an important thing for many players these days!
