This Gretsch Custom Shop Masterbuilt G6136-CS 1959 White Falcon Relic by Stephen Stern is a true Master Piece! When this guitar showed up, we all gathered around the shipping box in anticipation of seeing something exceptionally cool. We were not disappointed! This White Falcon is as nice a Gretsch as money can buy, in fact, we find these Stephen Stern built Gretsch to be the finest Gretsch Guitars to have ever been made. Period.
The White Falcon is a big-bodied, eye-catching, sight to behold! Finished in White and then expertly aged with some fantastic looking weather checking, every inch of this guitar has something to appreciate. From the Gold Sparkle Binding to the over-sized Gold Grover Imperial Tuners Hardware, there is something to appreciate about every spec. This guitar is certainly acoustically loud enough to be a suitable substitute for playing an acoustic, at least at home (of course not in any scenario necessitating the actual tone of an acoustic).
The neck is made from Quartersawn Maple and is carved to the classic full feeling Gretsch U Shape. A jet black Ebony fingerboard was selected which offers a great contrast to the large White body. 1 and 11/16" nut width gives us a familiar feel, and 25.5" scale length keeps the string tension feeling like a Fender. This is a great combo with the TV Jones pickups.
A pair of TV Jones Filter'tron Pickups come installed in this White Falcon and there is/was no better choice. TV Jones pickups simply sound phenomenal. They offer a snappy, quick attack that can go from the Rockabilly sounds of the 50s, through the Chet Atkins Catalog, and well into modern-day tones where these pickups are seeing an increase in usage and appreciation. While they aren't for everyone in every scenario, there is no substitute for them. A Gibson, Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio pickup just doesn't have the open top-end clarity of a TV Jones. Each pickup has its own volume control. There is also a Master Tone Switch, and a Master Volume.
