The top of the guitar is made from Sitka Spruce. This tonewood is found on guitars, mandolins, violins, all sorts of stringed or fretted instruments because it's easily one of the most tone-ful woods on the planet. The braces are made from Sitka Spruce, arranged in an X pattern, and scalloped for maximum tone and volume.
The back and sides are made from Indian Rosewood. This tonewood is dark in appearance with beautifully stratified lines that offer contrast. This wood makes for one interesting-sounding guitar, throwing harmonics around the room, as opposed to the directional uniformity of a comparable mahogany guitar. These wonderful tonal qualities are brought to life whether fingerpicking or flat-picking.
The neck is made from "Select Hardwood" which is far from specific! We have discovered Mahogany, Sapele, and Cedar are typically chosen and it's quite hard to discern between them in terms of tone or feel. All the wood selected by Martin is of high quality and since the Plek Machine is utilized during the build process, these guitars are built with a level of precision not previously available!
The neck profile is the Modified Low Oval Shape and sports the High-Performance Taper. This keeps the neck size more uniform as you work your way up the fingerboard, a bit more like a Taylor neck. Regardless of any brand allegiance, we LOVE This neck and are quite happy that it's become the most common neck on Martin Acoustic Guitars.
